Mugger attack turns man in to math genius

Jason Padgett went from being a college dropout to a mathematical genius after being attacked by muggers.

Having dropped out of college and with little interests other than partying and working out, Jason Padgett's life was turned upside-down when he was beaten up by muggers one night outside a club for his leather jacket. Surviving the attack with only a concussion, Jason soon discovered that something was different. Not long after the attack he became obsessed with drawing complex fractals and was able to see mathematical formulas everywhere he looked.

"Savant syndrome is the development of a particular skill, that can be mathematical, spatial, or autistic, that develop to an extreme degree that sort of makes a person super human," said neuroscientist Berit Brogaard.

Jason Padgett doesn't have a PhD, or a Masters degree. In fact, he dropped out of college and works at a futon store, but he is a mathematical genius and has been since being brutally attacked and kicked in the head by muggers a decade ago.
