'Dead' Brazilian boy awakes at his own funeral

• Kelvin Santos stopped breathing during treatment for pneumonia and was declared dead on Friday
• On Saturday he allegedly sat up in his coffin and asked his father for a glass of water

A two-year-old who was believed to be dead shocked his family when he woke up before being buried.

His father Antonio Santos described the scene as his son woke up and asked him for a glass of water. "Everybody started to scream, we couldn't believe our eyes," he said. "Then we thought a miracle had taken place and our boy had come back to life." Moments later the two-year-old lay back down and appeared once again to be deceased. "We couldn't wake him. He was dead again," said his father.

Having been rushed back to hospital, doctors declared for a second time that the boy had died. "They assured me that he really was dead and gave me no explanation for what we had just seen and heard," said Santos. The family delayed the funeral for a further hour to see if he'd wake up again before going ahead with the burial.
